Short version

  • MindType has no accounts, ads or analytics SDKs. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
  • When you dictate, the app sends your audio to our server on Cloudflare. Inworld then turns it into text with Groq's Whisper model.
  • When you tap an AI action, the text goes through our server and OpenRouter to xAI, whose Grok model writes the result.
  • When you tap TTS (read aloud), the text goes through our server to Inworld, which turns it into speech.
  • MindType sends no audio or text until you tap Agree and Continue on its privacy screen.
  • Our server passes your audio and text on and keeps no copy.
  • Your history, settings and actions stay on your device.

Where your data goes

MindType sends data only when you dictate, tap an AI action or tap TTS. This table lists every service that receives it, with a link to each one's privacy policy.

Who we are

MindType is an app for iPhone and iPad with a custom keyboard. The MindType team makes it. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean the MindType team, and "you" means the person who uses MindType.

This policy covers the MindType app, the MindType keyboard and this website. You can reach us at keyboard@artifekt.app.

What the app collects

MindType handles four kinds of data:

  • Audio that you record for dictation.
  • Text that you send to an AI action, and the instructions of that action.
  • Text that you send to TTS.
  • An install ID: a random identifier (a UUID) for your copy of MindType. MindType creates it the first time it connects to our server and uses it to get an access token.

MindType does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or location. The keyboard does not record what you type.

When your device connects to our server, Cloudflare receives your IP address, as any web server does. Our server uses the IP address only to limit how often one address can register a new install. It does not store the address.

We use this data only to provide the feature you ask for: turning speech into text, changing text with an AI action, or reading text aloud. The services in the table above run in the United States and other countries, so your data can be processed outside the country where you live.

Audio and transcription

iOS does not let keyboards use the microphone, so the MindType app records the audio. Your first tap on the mic opens the app and starts a session. During a session, the app keeps the microphone open so that the keyboard can start the next dictation, and iOS shows its microphone indicator.

Between recordings, the app discards the incoming audio in memory. It writes audio to a file only while a recording runs.

A recording stops when you tap stop, when it reaches 5 minutes, or when the session ends, for example when a call starts or headphones connect. The Support page lists every way a session ends. When a recording stops, the app uploads it to our server. Our server sends it to Inworld, which transcribes it with the Whisper speech model (whisper-large-v3) running on Groq. The text comes back to the keyboard, which inserts it into the field. The app also saves the text in History on your device.

To delete a recording without sending it, pause it and tap the trash button on the keyboard.

If the upload fails, or iOS closes MindType during a recording, the app keeps the recording in its own storage on your device and leaves it out of device backups. It tries the upload again when you open MindType, when a session starts and when the app returns to the screen. When the text arrives, the app saves it to History and deletes the recording. If our server rejects the recording, or five tries fail, the app deletes the recording and notes the failure in History. A try that cannot reach our server does not count.

AI actions

When you tap an AI action, the keyboard sends the text you selected. If you selected nothing, it sends all the text in the field. It also sends the action's instructions: the built-in instructions for Proofread, Rewrite, Shorten, Reply and Postify, or the instructions you wrote for your own action.

The text goes to our server, then to OpenRouter, which passes it to xAI. xAI's Grok 4.1 Fast model writes the result, which comes back to the keyboard as a preview. You choose whether to replace your text, insert the result or copy it. The app saves the original text and the result in History on your device.

MindType uses this one model today. If we add a model from another provider, we will name that provider in this policy before the app sends it any text.

We do not use your text to train models. OpenRouter and xAI handle the text under their own terms and privacy policies, which are linked in the table above.

Read aloud (TTS)

The TTS action reads text aloud. The setup screens call it Read aloud. When you tap it, the keyboard sends the text through our server to Inworld, which turns it into speech. The audio comes back to your device and plays there. Our server does not store the text or the audio.

Data stored on your device

MindType keeps this data on your device:

  • History: up to 200 recent dictations and AI action results, with the time of each one and the length of each recording. The app and the keyboard share it through a container on your device that only MindType can open.
  • Your settings and the actions you create.
  • The install ID and the access token from our server, in the iOS Keychain.
  • Recordings that wait for upload, until the upload works or fails five times (see section 4).

MindType does not upload or sync your History, settings or actions. If you back up your device to iCloud or to a computer, the backup can include them. Backups do not include recordings that wait for upload.

Full Access

iOS asks you to allow Full Access before a keyboard can use the network or share data with its app. The MindType keyboard uses Full Access for these tasks:

  • Tell the MindType app to start, pause and stop a recording.
  • Read the transcript and the History entries that the app saves.
  • Save AI action results to History on your device.
  • Send text to our server when you tap an AI action or TTS.
  • Get an access token from our server with the install ID.

The keyboard sends text only when you tap an AI action or TTS. It does not log your keystrokes.

Typing works without Full Access. Without it, the mic and the AI actions show how to turn it on. In password fields, iOS shows its own keyboard in place of any custom keyboard.

What we do not do

  • We have no user accounts, and we do not ask you to sign in.
  • We show no ads.
  • The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs. Its only third-party code is KeyboardKit, an open-source keyboard library that collects no data.
  • We do not track you across apps or websites.
  • We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
  • We do not use your audio or text to train models.

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It loads no scripts or fonts from other sites.

Retention

Our server keeps no copy of your audio or text. It sends each request to the service that handles it and returns the answer to your device.

To limit abuse, our server counts registrations per IP address and requests per install ID in one-minute windows. Each counter expires after 60 seconds, and we do not store the ID or the address.

Cloudflare, Inworld, Groq, OpenRouter and xAI process data under their own terms and privacy policies, and each one sets its own retention period. The table above links to each policy.

Data on your device stays there until you delete it or delete the app. Deleting the app removes History, your settings, your actions and recordings that wait for upload.

The install ID and the access token stay in the iOS Keychain after you delete MindType. If you install MindType again, it uses the same install ID. To remove them, erase the device in Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone (or iPad) > Erase All Content and Settings.

Children

MindType is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to keyboard@artifekt.app and we will help.

Your choices

  • Clear History. Open MindType, go to the History tab and tap Clear All.
  • Turn off Full Access. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > MindType and turn off Allow Full Access. Typing keeps working.
  • Remove the keyboard. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards, tap Edit and remove MindType.
  • Turn off the microphone. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and turn off MindType.
  • Delete the app. This removes History, your settings, your actions and recordings that wait for upload from the device. The install ID stays in the Keychain (see section 10).

Our server stores nothing about you, so we hold no data to show, export or delete. You can still write to us with any privacy request, and we will reply. For data that Inworld, Groq, OpenRouter or xAI hold, you can also contact them through the links in the table above.

Changes

We will post any change to this policy on this page and update the date at the top. If a change adds a service that receives your data, we will update this page before the app starts to use that service.
